Hi, all,
I got 5 red sex-links a few years ago, was so naive that I believed the guy who sold them to me when he said they were around 20 weeks old. Well, they never did molt, not even "soft" molting, and then they began to stop laying, and now 3 of them have died, of old age, I'm sure.
Anyway, I have added 5 other chickens since then, and none of them has ever molted. The 5 other chickens are about a year old now. I always thought they would molt their first year in the fall. Not that I'm complaining, but are there breeds that simply don't ever molt?

All birds will molt. But to answer your question, they normally endure their first full molt in their second autumn but I have a breed that molt their first autumn.

I had some mix breed hens that never went through a molt ever. It is strange! But I'm not complaining
