Hi all,
One of my hens has changed her behaviour, just standing jn the same spot for a while. No penguin walk or panting breathing, but she seems down. I've given the flock multivitamin water (I've forgotten what it's called) this morning, and they're on a layers pellets (new feed about 2 weeks ago). I'm not sure if I was her egg laid this morning (as there is another hen who lays a very similar egg) but it was quite an oval shape, longer and thinner than the normal one. Can't guarantee it was her though, and if it wasn't her, she hasn't laid yesterday or the day before either. She's about 10 months old.
She's been standing in the same spot for a few hours.
Help - what do I do?

Try gently feeling around in between her legs and see if you can feel anything hard. You can also put on a pair of latex gloves and put feel around in her vent for an egg.

No, no solid egg. We are now on 3 weeks like this and she has only laid 4 eggs in this time, all 4 are weird shaped and lumpy. The egg she laid the day after this was a lash egg.

Taken to the vet and the vet isn't sure... (because of where i live the next vet is miles... and miles... though I'd do the journey if this is what is needed)

Thuis morning she has a really gross bum and I've found a fluorescent yellow poo in the coop.

Any other suggestions?

A bit hard to see the lumpiness of it in a picture but more obvious next to the other girls eggs

Does her breathing sound wheezy or labored? Is she eating and drinking normal now? And how do her feathers look?

Not laboured, but she is sneezy. She's eating and drinking a lot less than the others, but still eating and drinking. Her feathers are a bit dirty, but overall good condition...

How does her crop feel? Could it be worms? Internal parasites can cause decreased egg production.

It doesn't feel too bad, she is still sneezing and just sits around all day... I've given some verm x pellets, but should I be getting something else?

I can't really say anything for sure until we can figure out exactly what it is. Her crop should be empty by morning. If it isn't then she probably has impacted crop. You haven't noticed a bad smell coming from her mouth have you?

No, her crop drains ok and no bad smell from her mouth.
Have one more who is starting to get a mucky bum too this morning!
