Not new but rather returning to active

Welcome Back, we saved a place on the roost for you. Yippee another dog person -:ya.

BYC is loaded with past & present dog people, confirmation, obedience, search & rescue, therapy dogs, dog handlers, judges, etc. etc.

I started showing American Cockers when I was 12. When I was 20 I was able to acquire show quality dogs - that became my first 3 champions and the parents of many more. I also wrote for several dog magazines, incl. American Cocker Review, Cocker Spaniel Leader, Cocker Spaniel Spokesman.

Used to be a handler's assistant in the '70's and retired in the '80's to become a parent.

Would love to hear/ see some of the Cockers you've had. Wow, it would be a trip down memory lane.

PS good luck with your chickens.

Nice! I started with Parti Color Cockers in the late 70's and worked for Bob Covey in CA and when he moved to CO he invited us to move there too and wanting to get our kids out of So. Cal, we did and have never missed CA. My kennel name at the time was Debills Cocker Spaniels. My husband got us into the Pointers and we changed the kennel name to Paws-A-Tively kennels. I had been an all breed professional groomer before showing and finally after a long wait I got my Kerry Blue Terriers so I could groom to my hearts content and I was/am good at it!
I didn't really choose professional handling, it chose me, but I did love all the years full time on the road and some of the great dogs I was able to show and rank. A couple of years ago after an emergency surgery I decided to slow down and semi retire so that I could spend more time with my husband, kids, my family and finally get to actually get more involved with my poultry and my little farm. I still show about once a month but I am more interested now in getting involved with showing poultry and preserving some breeds. The whole show set up is so different in poultry than in dogs and I think it may be a good thing, time will tell.
I have always known that many dog folks also love their poultry!
I attached a few pictures of some of my favorite Cockers and one of the last Kerry Blue Terriers I specialed, he still lives with me too. Plus I had to include one of a couple of my young Wyandottes! I hope it's not too many photos to post! IMG_6688.JPG
