what kind of chicks are ya hatching?

So I went out last night and he had hatched. Grabbed a quick picture and i'll upload that later. He has made it through the night and seems happy, I think.
I'll upload my picture later when on the pc, an try and get one of him now hes all fluffed up. But hes grey with a golden face and two stripes down his back .. Oh and adorable too!
he's a pekin, his mum is either a black, buff or lavender and his dad is, well I'm not sure the name for his colourings, hes the chick in my picture, but hes now buff on his breast and grey black and white on his tail, I've had him from a week old and the hen were a gift from my uncle for my 21st last year and he bred them out of his own hens. Anyway! Enough chicken history lol It is 8.46am, I am a lazybutt an going back to bed now I've checked my chooks!

Good news, I can hear another egg cheeping away fingers crossed its out in the morning and as promised, one of the egg so you can tell me if this looks normal one just after the hatch still a little wet and then two I took this morning all dry and fluffy

I am proud, this is the first hatch I've ever done and the same goes for my hen so I'm proud of her and the little guy for making it out because I thought I lost him at one point But I've decided any further hatches shall be incubated. Too stressful all being done in my garden where I cant see it happening and if something is going wrong.

Also the smiley faces on the eggs were so I could tell which were fertile and which newly laid by other hens. I did check online it was ok I use a pen instead of a pencil.

Hes been out the egg for about 24 hours now so I put down a little food and water, and the pebbles in the water but mum hasn't shown him where it is yet, I think shes waiting to see if the others will hatch. How long should I wait before showing him myself if she decides she'd rather sit and wait. I heard chicks can go upto three days without food/water initially. I'd rather not wait that long. Also, he doesn't seem to be moving around a lot and just staying under mum, is this because he has only just hatched or is this what its just like? I want to see him and other peoples chicks seem to be more active, is that because they've a heat lamp and I've not?

That's just the way it is! The chicks stay with mum where it is all nice and warm and they will come out when they are hungry. You should put food and water down for them and the mom will know when the right time for her babies to eat is! Wait till you hear the little sound the mom makes when she is feeding the kids!!

Just went downstairs to check on mum, her and baby seem fine. Second egg has pipped. Little tiny hole in the membrane and i can see a bit of movement. I removed the smell lose bits of shell and put the egg back. I must say my hen doesnt seem to mind one bit me going in an poking around, must be all the corn treat shes getting. That is her and only her, nothing but chick crumb for the babies

Ive two chicks now. A third hatched but looks like mum squashed it to death as was very flat looking but was dry and fluffy. Took the rest of her eggs from her and gave them to my other hen :/

Congrats on the second chick and sorry about the third. What made you decide to take the eggs away?
