not roosting !!

hello,
I got 5 red star hens for my first time last week. They are finished their first cycle of laying but havent started their second yet. Whenever i check them at night, there might be 2 or even 3 in one nesting box and one in each of the other two, asleep, but they never go up on to the perch to roost. Is there a reason for this or should i be worried? Any replies would be greatly appreciated

Any way to close off the nesting boxes at night? Sounds like a training issue to me. They just don't understand!

the nesting boxes are lined with straw which may attract them! I tried blocking it off but then they just lay in the main section of the coop!
