In theory . . .

I have a 6ft fence . . .
I found emu chicks on CL for $50 . . .
I cant find a specific mention in my county codes that says I cant have 1 . . .

What I really been wondering, is how a bird like that cant get over a 6 foot fence?

OK..so I have never OWNED an emu, but I do know people who keep a single one on their property. 8 foot chain link fence around the yard where the emu is kept with some chickens. The only other ones I have seen are in wildlife reserves or free to roam in their natural habitat... This one was raised by humans as it was injured- and is very placid. I guess its just the weight- they dont fly and cant really climb over the fence?????

Sorry I couldnt be of more help.

In theory an emu could get over a 6 ft fence if they really wanted too, but if you get one as a baby and they are raised with that fence as a barrier, they are less likely to go over it. I have 4ft livestock wire on one side of my property, privacy fence on the other and corral panels in between(emu can slip under corral panels). My one only went over the 4 ft once when playing with the dog and waited for me to come get him ( teach baby emu how to walk on a harness).... the only time they challenge the higher fence is when fighting with each other.

Mine is only a week old but she doesn't look like the jumping type. I'm sure if they really wanted to they can but if they are hand raised and friendly they should be fine.
