My 21 chicks are 4 & 6 weeks old and living out in the coop. Last night, I left them out in the enclosed run, with the coop door open. They come in/out of the coop easily. Well, while we were at the movies (Hunger Games), it started to rain. The silly chicks were cold, shivering, and soaked by the time we got home! I think they were afraid of the sound on roof.

Lesson learned... They are still babies!

Lol same goes for my three Silkie hens who are over a year old. It really has to be storming bad for them to take cover.

I have a roof on my run. The birds only free range when I am in the yard. This mean they don't have an opportunity to go out in the rain very often. Sometimes in the fall I need to do some work in my garden regardless of the weather. If I let them out to free range on a rainy day most of them just give me a funny look like they are saying "are you crazy?" and stay in the run. Only a couple of them will go out in the rain.

My chicks are still in the brooder but my neighbor's chickens enjoy the rain.. they will walk around in the mud and stand in puddles of water.
