Hey fellow chicken-enthusiasts! I am not new at all, but I never did my Intro, so here it is!
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I have had chickens ever since I was 4 or 5. I have ALWAYS loved them
They were my "gate-way drug" to farming and now I have an always growing, changing, expanding farmette.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Well as of now, I have 11 adult chickens, 6 juvenile chicks, 5 tiny newborn chicks, 9 eggs in the incubator, and we are getting our 2 yearly turkeys in the next few days. I am also getting a dozen button quail hatching eggs this weekend!!!!
(3) What breeds do you have?
Oh boy........7 chocolate Orpingtons (they are my current project), 2 naked neck mixes, 2 bantam cochins, 2 swedish flowers, 1 pavlovskaya, 1 ameruacana, 1 maran, 1 orpington/ameruacana cross, 1 pearl white leghorn, 1 white polish, 1 easter egger, 1 spitzhuaben, 1 silver penciled rock. phew........i think that's all of 'em.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
To tell you the truth, I DO NOT LIKE EGGS AT ALL. Lol, I can't stand them. After hatching eggs they just aren't appetizing. I love watching them forage, interact w/ eachother, and be happy birds!
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Gardening, biking, hiking, traveling, violin.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share?
I also raise dairy goats, mini rex rabbits, californian (meat) rabbits, bees, and then as pets I have a Mini Aussie doggy, 2 barn cats, 2 gerbils, a betta, and brackish shrimp.
(7) BONUS: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our community?
When a few of my birds had Mareks, I came here for answers. I knew about byc about a year or two before I joined. I LOVE it here! Best community for chicken lovers ever! So glad I found this awesome site...........
