Hi, we have three hens and bought a further three hens on Monday. I’ve got the two groups separated. The market was a very stressful place for an animal.
One of the hens, a Sussex, doesn’t seem to be as active as the others. She’s 4 to 6 months old. She closes her eyes a lot and keeps shaking her head. She has ventured out into the garden, which surprised me. She is eating and drinking well but will lay down at every opportunity. I’ve put some nutridrops today in their water plus some vermix, for instestinal improvement, in their food. The other two are fine.
One other thing. I noticed small round whitish marks on her comb.
I don’t know why, I just have a feeling that she may have a problem but I don’t have the experience to know what it is!

Can you post some photos of her, the comb and her poop?
Have you looked in her ears for any signs of mites, discharge or ear infection?
Any mucous in the nostrils, canker/sores inside the beak?

4-6months of age is long time span when it comes to chickens - is she supposed to be laying eggs now? (a 6month old) Have you felt for an egg?

If you have vet care and can take a stool sample to your vet for testing, that would be good.

We were a bit slow but realised she had fowl pox. Fortunately I had separated the new girls from our existing hens. We got some creams from the vet. One for her eyes and one for her skin. They have been applied twice a day. They both contain painkillers to ease her discomfort - the poor little thing has the equivalence of shingles in her eyes. I use a hand sanitizer after treating her.
To help her, and the other two birds with her, I’m giving them chopped up hard boiled eggs, adding in some Verm-X, to help improve their immune system.
She’s looking a lot better and now putting on weight - she’s also started to lay eggs. Her eyes are still a little crusty but she’s not shaking her head as much and is far more alert. I think she is realising we’re trying to help her.
