Not Sure if You've Got a Pullet or a Cockerel? Click here! thread 3

Hi! We bought what we hoped were Black SexLink Chickens from Tractor Supply. They are now ten weeks old. I am not convinced that these birds are BSL. They had a tub right next to the BSL containing Asian Chickens the prior day and the day we went in, there were different breeds in one tub. These birds have black feet and three of four of the birds have five toes! And if you see a Roo among them, I would not mind knowing that either.

I am not sure what they are. The leakage certainly does look like BSL, but I wonder if they are mixes or the Asian breed you wee talking about. Either way, they ae gorgeous!

I like following these just to learn for myself, but how old does a chick have to be to make a good guess? I see some who are older but no one is sure and then some people are fairly sure and they're only 3 weeks old lol.
It really depends on the breed. Some can be sexed at hatch (sex links), but some have to be as old as 10+ weeks to know for sure. There's a long list of breeds that are difficult to sex till they are older.

Simply wondering about sex, not breed. Not sure how where they're from has anything to do with their gender. Brand new to this site and I'm hoping not all responses are so condescending. Thank you for your input on my 'Barred Rocks'.
Wasn't being condescending. Just pointing out facts. Both 'purebred' Barred Rocks and Cinnamon Queens should be sexable by coloring. Your birds have female coloring, but most are clearly male. Breed plays a big part in determining gender. Your birds are not the breeds that you purchased. I'm sorry to have to tell you that. It's terrible to be misinformed by a seller/breeder. Some people will say anything to get rid of their extra birds. I have nothing against mixed breeds. In fact, most of my current flock would be considered mixed breeds.

Both look like cockerels to me, especially with the patchy coloring through the wing/shoulders.
