Yep, that's a cockerel. He's got male barring through the tail.

Thank you, I really appreciate it. I have an Australorp mature hen already, her comb and wattles are twice the size of your hen's! But she's rather a large bird overall so...

"Blue" is a dominant dilute gene for black pigment in a feather. Blacks have no dilute gene. Blues have one copy, diluting the black to to shades of dark to medium grey. Splash have two copies, diluting the black even further to a pale grey or almost white with flecks of darker grey throughout.
Not an APA judge. I've got too much going on to travel, and the nearest sanctioned shows are usually over 100 miles from me.
