Hello, you guys have been great helping me find out the breed and gender of my sweet chicks so I’m back again. :)

1. Where did you get the birds? The first and second one are Peanut and Cookie. We purchased them at Atwood’s on 7/12. The third and fourth one are from Meyer Hatchery, hatched on 7/21. We purchased two females, Chocolate and Milk.

2. If you bought them from a hatchery, which breeds did you select? Chocolate is a Green Queen Bantam and Milk is a Mottled Frizzle Cochin Bantam.

3. If they were bought at a feed store, what breeds or varieties were listed? Peanut and Cookie were labeled Straight Run Bantams chicks.

I know a comb doesn’t exactly mean a cockerel but my two females growing them so early has me a bit worried. Are the genders right? Not sure if it might be too early to tell.

Love to hear about gender and breed on the other two from Atwood’s. I’m thinking Peanut is a Partridge Cochin Bantam? Thanks!

I had a feeling the pullets were cockerels. I’ll be reaching out to the hatchery. Thank you!
Definitely, I don't blame you. Seems it's been a rough year for sexed chicks. There was a post on here recently where all the sexed birds from Meyer were male, or like 9/10. My friend bought pullets in TSC and got 5 of 6 cockerels.

Vent sexing isn't an exact science, and I read it's even harder for bantam breeds. Seems like hatcheries could just sell straight run and not run the risk.

That’s a bummer. I figured ordering online from a hatchery was better than TSC but my 50/50 chance are the exact same. Lesson learned. Thank you for sharing. I agree hatcheries should just sell straight runs to avoid this. :(
