I have a chick that pipped, started to zip and is now stuck. Beak is outside the shell and he is starting to pant. Membrane is white everything looks normal except maybe the position he is in.

From pip to actual hatch may take 24 hours or so. Sit on your hands and leave it alone, okay?

Happy hatching!

Going to run an errand and see what happens when I get back. He pipped yesterday. He's been in this same spot during the zip for 2 hours. Made it halfway and has been stuck panting for awhile.

I had 2 that did that, 1 died the other I helped and she survived. But that was almost 24 hours after they stopped zipping. I'd wait then go with ur gut.

Gone five hours and the chick is still in the same position. No further progress. He was making excellent progress before he stopped. Peeping and moving but I think its stuck. Gonna wait til tonight after the kids are in bed to help incase something is wrong, but I don't think its anything other then position. From what I can see it cant turn to zip the other half of the egg. If I need to help What do I do?The shell is already halfway open and has a cm trench I can see into. Everything looks fine except the chick is on its back and cant turn over. The membrane is not stuck to it from what I can see but maybe on his back?

If I remember right, you have that staggered hatch. So, when you take it out, try to gently break the shell off. Try to not bother with the membrane if it is stuck to the chick if you can, just get rid of what shell you can. Then soak the chick in a cup of warm water. Not hot water but water that is warm to the touch. Keep its head out of the water so you don't drown it. After you've soaked it a bit, try to pick off the membrane that is stuck. Don't worry about the gunk or anything else. The goal is to get the membrane off so it can move its legs, wings and neck. Once you have got what membrane you can off it, put it back in the incubator to dry off. Try to keep it out of drafts and such while it is out of the incubator. You do not want it to chill. If it still has gunk on it that looks like the down is full of glue, don't worry about it. That stuff will wear off in about a week.

Good luck. If it makes it, this will probably be a special chick for you.

I knew something was wrong. I started to pull off the shell around the zip line. he was stuck but not to the membrane he couldn't turn. Fully developed no veins in membrane or yolk sack. Oh I feel so much better. He broke the egg himself as soon as I was 3/4 the way around.
