Not This Time!

I have one trap set next to my chickens. Tonight I'm gonna set out all of them. Live traps work here, but I'll set some leg traps too. This time of the year I'm not gonna mess with the pelts so who cares how bad it gets torn up. If I could have used a gun there would be 3 dead.

I didn't like the idea of shooting a .17 off into the dark when there are houses a ways down the road. I think I'll put a false bottom on my pens. Will 1 inch work for this?

I'm fond of 220 sized body traps but you need to be real careful where you set them especially in connection with bait I mostly set them on well defined coon trails without bait if you are using a leg hold a size 1 or 1 1/2 trap is the best size to use for coon they chew on whatever is the softest ( their foot) and with a smaller trap they cannot get their mouth under the jaws to chew snares work well too just more of a learning curve on them

I snared one a few years ago when I got bored.

Almost every time I set a trap something gets in it or gets the bait. I have coyotes getting in my coon traps all the time. I live around about 5 patches of woods and the rest small farms and one subdevision. So there are plenty of critters.

duke coil springs 1 and 1 1/2 or 311 longsprings would be the best/ cheapest, i've never tried it but you can wrap the pan with foil and bury the rest of the trap because coons like shiny stuff. Coons will chew out of a large foot hold and will still live, a three legged coon will probably be the smartest one in the woods, he will most likely never get caught after that.
