Not to be insensitive; when babies have to be culled.

Just wanted to throw my 2 cents worth in here. I have been a veterinary technician for 18 years. I work in a high-tech specialty practice. We have CT, echo, endoscopy, and are soon to get MRI. I can tell you that if a bird were brought to us for euthanasia, we would do it, BUT it is nearly impossible to hit a vein on a bird, especially a small chick. Our only recourse would be to inject the euthanasia solution directly into the heart. IF it is a good stick it is instantaneous. HOWEVER, it does not always happen that way. I have seen even the most experienced vets stick a bird or other small mammal several times trying to hit the heart. Honestly, most vets dread having to euthanize small animals for this reason. I will not judge people who have put chicks in the freezer, because they did not mean to be inhumane. I am very glad that the OP put this thread up. Please refrain from being judgmental. Just state what the best, quickest, and most humane methods are in your opinion. And hopefully those who have used less humane methods can learn from your experience. After all, that is what this community is for. To share our knowledge and help each other. As for how I cull, sharp kitchen shears. Thankfully, I have only had to do it a few times.
