Not using a heat lamp?

Hi everyone! I am planning on getting some baby chicks next week. Where I live (central california) it will be high 80s low 60s. Would I be able to raise the chicks outside? Do they still need a heat lamp? What would be the best way? Thanks in advance

If they are just day old chicks then yes, they need some sort of heat source (lamp, plate, pad) since you'll be brooding outside I suggest either the pad or plate since it lowers the risk of fire.

No matter where you brood them they need a heat source. If you have a predator proof coop that can give them heat then outside would be fine.

If you have electricity and no other chickens, it is best to start them in the coop where they'll be living.
60F would be way too cool long term the first 3 or 4 weeks.
