They look like Barred Rocks to me! Marans have pink legs, so they aren't that.

Why are you skeptical that they aren't Barred Rocks?

We only ordered one Barred Rock.

We'd be fine with 2 Barred Rocks; it's just their combs look so different from each other. We were trying to figure out which was the Barred Rock, and what the other one (that was 'supposed' to be an Australorp) actually is

The rose combed one is definately a Dominque and if you asked for Barred Rocks, you should have contacted the hatchery and let them know of the mix up going on.

BTW, if it helps, here is what they looked like at about 4 days old. We thought they were clearly 2 different breeds.

the second one could also just have a deffect of a rose comb and the second chick just looks different

Definitely not an australorp, but I can see where the confusion occurred. Except for having very light legs, your dominique looks very much like an aussie chick.

Aside from mixed breeds, I have never, ever heard of a barred rock having anything but a straight comb. That would most definitely indicate poor breeding lines.
