Noticed somthing about differant feed.

The bigger eggs are likely from a higher protein count per pound in the feed. My Red Star will lay "super" eggs the day after I give them ginormous piles of meat scraps. Sometimes double yolks, sometimes just freakishly huge eggs.

Feed quality makes a HUGE difference. When we purchased our first ten chickens, which was seven years ago, I did not put much interest in their rearing. As I began reading and learning about chickens, my passion intensified. I keep records on their growth and balance their feed. I cook pumpkins, soybeans, meat, grow lettuce exclusively for them, and bring them daily treats. Keeping the hens on balanced protien and calcium diet changes everything about their egg production........from the size to the quality of eggs.

My husband always reminds me that it seems we cook more for the chickens then we do for ourselves anymore!!!!
