Notification Issues

I am having an issue with notifications. I am getting on average 50 emails an hour, and to threads I did not subscribe to. I did however sign up to receive notifications for certain topics. for example "Chickenstocks, Shows, Meet-Ups" problem is I am getting notifications for threads I never subscribed to or even commented in for that topic. This is happening for all the other topics I have subscribed to. I get notifications for all the threads under that topic. How can I fix stop this? I belong to other forums and know exactly how to set my preferences. However this forum seems to be quite different as to the way it's set up.

Basically I only want to receive notifications for new threads in the topics I subscribe to. Not all the previous threads in that topic.

Thank You.

Jeff

This is an example of the emails I am getting. I did not subscribe to any of these threads or comment in them.

It looks like you are individually subscribed to about 50+ threads, but I think the issue is that you are subscribed to entire forum sections, for example:

That means you're getting emails for all new topics / posts in that section.

If you click on that gold start that says "subscribed" you can edit / change your subscription settings.

Exactly, however I seem to be getting notifications for threads that are old and new. I know this because this is my second day. Something is off here. I chose to receive immediate emails for each NEW thread in a topic. However I am getting a notification for every thread old or new. Very odd.

I had this happen to me early on. Go to your Profile page and click on "Edit account details". Then scroll down to "Notifications and Subscriptions". Then go down this section to the bottom of it where it says, "Default Subscription Frequency". Drop down the window and click on "Don't subscribe". Then click on "Save" at the bottom of the page to save your preferences. This should fix your issue. :)

Thank You Rob, and TwoCrows for your help. I appreciate it. After I do this TwoCrow, I will still get notifications for brand new threads correct?

Thank You.

Jeff

I have never had any luck with getting properly notified with any of the subscriptions. When I subscribe to one, I get notified for every thread I have ever posted on. LOL The best thing I can suggest you do is, after you post on a thread, go back to your profile page and check to see if someone has posted on it. You can expand your Recent Activity at the bottom there where it says, "More". You will find it.

Oh and make sure while you are in your Account Details to unclick "Notify me when someone comments on my comments" and "Notify me when someone comments after me". Both of these are in your Notifications and Subscriptions. Always click on Save when you are done.

Good luck! :)

I don't use the email system at all. This may not appeal to either of you, but perhaps it will help someone.

My default settings in my profile are "don't subscribe" and "show dialog box." "Send email notifications" is not checked. I subscribe to a thread from the dropdown box after the reply box on any thread page, changing it from "don't subscribe" to "site only (no email.)" When there is a new post, I get a red number in the upper right hand corner, similar to the number to show me I have a new PM, in that same area. I never see unwanted threads in the subscrition area, and it is one click to remove a thread when I am through with it. Granted, you have to be on BYC to see it. For me, that is not a disadvantage, though.
