I seem to not be getting a notification sometimes. Sometimes I do. Is it something on my end? I remember something about a push notification that I opted out of. What was that?

If you get a motif but don't click it, the thread won't send more until you go and catch up

Push notifications are where if you activate them on your phone it will activate your phone like if you got a text but it will pop the notification up instead of a text, I haven't activated them on a computer but I think it will just pop up a message on your screen. You do not need to be on BYC at the moment to get a push notification.

I would check your notification settings and see if you are actually signed up for the notifications you want.
