Still have some of mine in the bator. Hard to tell on candling the brown and green ones, but it looks like some of them are developing, they're due Jan 2 or so. I put four of my hens eggs in at the same time, and two of those are developing nicely, so hopefully we at least get a couple of babies out of this incubation. Some of the swap eggs I got looked scrambled when I candled them, but like I said, I can't tell on the green and brown ones, but they look like there is a dark shadow that's the right size for this age of incubation, same size as the two of my eggs that are developing. So Evonne, there might be some of your babies hatched out here after all!
edited to add:
Evonne, looks like all four of the green eggs may be good, and three of the four brown ones. None of the white ones even began to develop, but they looked really scrambled, the yolk was runny all over. Keeping my fingers crossed for at least some of these others to make it!
I got one lone duckie from my eggs. It's all black with a little yellow bib. Can it be a pure Cayuga or a mix of Magpie and Cayuga? I'm not familiar with ducks at all but I love this little one.
if you're brave, and you have no ethical quirks on the matter, you may want to pip and remove the shell from the aircell end for them on day 21.. i did this with my green that i hatched on christmas day... if i hadn't i doubt she woulda been able to turn to pip...
the last batch of my own eggs i did none hatched and i opened them all to find the shell VERY full of chick... a few pipped the aircell, and a few didn't.. but the one that did pip, didn't pip with it's beak.. and had i known i woulda helped.. his elbow cracked the shell when he was trying to turn.... lol...
PM me if you want more exact details of what i did, but omg.. the little one that is out of my green egg is SSOO cute... mom is all reds and browns.. dad is whites and blacks w/ a little bit of redish browns... this baby looks like she's gonna be whites and silvers and blacks.. with a hit of chocolates.. lol..
I sent eggs to Kelly. <sniff sniff> Its really disappointing when you send eggs and then you don't know whether they hatched or not. I'm going to try to PM her to see if she responds.
