November Hatch-A-Long (2014)

Lockdown has happened and I'm kinda freaking out at having had high humidity and half convinced I've already killed them all, ahhhh. They're in my bathroom now, with my chick brooder mostly set up in the hopes I get some.

I feel your pain.... at every .5 degree flux I get I panic! We are all here with you! Hoping for some fluffy butts soon!

Oh I'll be freaking out when I go on lock down too! My previous hatches in the old crappy bater always left me sad at how many didn't make it. I have such high hopes with this new one. I don't want to bring them down because that is part of the fun but I worry too. I am praying that all 5 of these babies make it and not have any issues after they hatch, It's really hard when you have to put one down even when you know it's the best thing for them.

All of the cute babies you guys are showing are keeping my thoughts on the good side so thank you so much!

What kind of incubator is everyone using? If it's already been asked, I apologize!!

I am using an incuview and then moved these first 7 to a homemade one for hatching. I'll let the remaining 15 hatch in the incuview.

I'm using an Aquaribator MK I

There's a pic of it in the thread pictures. My last hatch I used a Little Giant still air which resulted in a total loss of all 24 eggs. I figured any piece of crud I threw together could do better, and now here we are. I am quite happy with my aquaribator.

I am using the JN12 Incubator, which is a Chinese incubator, which proudly declares its 'Voltoge' on the front. The spelling is terrible, but I'm a tech-head iRL, so pretty used to awful variants on spelling. It is supposed to be able to take twelve eggs, but mine could only take ten - admittedly, several of my eggs were gigantic, but even interspersing them with the silkies, I couldn't manage. I built a cardboard 'loop' which I glued to the edge of the turner, increasing the amount of space available. This did work.

The eggs roll completely - 180degrees forward and back. You won't see it unless you've marked them - it rolls them verrrry, verrrry slowly a few times each day.

I suspect the temperature runs a little low - I'll know more when I know when hatching starts, but it seemed to sustain the humidity quite well - which is really, really unusual in my house. My house itself runs at such low humidity now that I get dry skin, so the incubator was doing well.

One problem - I think I had an old user manual! The new one is: http://www.chonka.net/index.php/product/JN12.html

Mine said '37.7' temp for eggs - the new one says 38. I'm hoping that the slightly lower temp will just mean a longer hatch, not a ruined one.

LG still air. So far no problems, course I haven't candled yet but will tonight. It's day six for me so I'll update after I candle with final count.

ETA
Total 14 eggs. Pulled one that was clear, opened it and it was a very early quitter day 1 or 2. 13 still in the bator with nice veining.

I'm using a Little Giant with the installed fan, and three thermometers to make sure I'm on the right track. At day 14 now and all are developing well. (Doing dry incubation this time.) Temps have been holding well in it.)

I'm using a Brinsea Octagon 20 Eco with a turner for most of my eggs. I had extras shipped and had to find an extra bator. Borrowing a little Giant still air and hand turning. I have developers on both at day 5.

Built mine using an Omaha Steaks cooler. The styrofoam is very thick and sturdy. I installed two light sockets a fan and a thermostat. Added two windows(one on top and one on the side). Adjusting the temp on the thermostat was pretty easy. The first one I built was horrible, k-mart cheap cooler, single light and a window. Thank God for people who know what they're doing on youtube, LOL.
