November Hatch-A-Long (2014)

I too am REALLY sorry for your flock.. I know this puts a little more pressure/meaning to this hatch!   Fingers Crossed for you!

YAy yay YAY for chicks!!!

Well today is Day 5 for me.   I broke down and candled.

In the Octagon: out of 30 Set eggs (1 AA, 5 Isbars, 5 BCM, 5JerseyGiants,3 Olive Eggers and 12 Seramas)  I have definite veining in 8 of them.    2 Isbars, 2 JG,  2 OE, and 2 Serama.   I THINK I have one additional Serama that is blood ring.  Never seen one before so hard to say at this point.     I honestly cannot tell much about most of the BCM.  The eggs are so dark its hard to see.    So I may have a few more that become obvious on Day 7 when I candle again.

ONE of my Olive Eggers has the most BEAUTIFUL development... RIGHT where the air cell should be.   The Aircell in one one side IN THE MIDDLE of the egg!!!   What Am I supposed to do with this?!??!

IN the Styro Still Bator:  I have 6 eggs set.   2 from my own hens (Silke/RIR/Delaware) mutts are doing great and set to hatch next Wednesday.   From the 4 other shipped eggs (2 JG and 2 BCM) I have 1 JG and 1 BCM I think.

Hopefully things will become more evident on Saturday (day 7).... So do you guys throw out your clears?  or hold on to them for a little longer just in case???

Incubate your side air cell egg upright if you weren't already. As the air cell grows it'll grow towards the top of the egg, and then when it's lockdown time put the side with the air cell on it on the top of the egg so the chick positions to pip into it. It's a little less likely that it'll hatch successfully but I've had them make it before, so don't give up on it!

Three out so far on my Halloween hatch!

It seems I have a third chicken wanting to go broody

I don't mind it but I only have two cages to use and I don't want to allow any to raise chicks in hen house as its not chick proof. Does anyone know how I can break this broody once i have the other two in the cages (picking up 2nd cage Saturday). I leave the hen-house open for the others to get in to lay there eggs in the nesting box. Will it hurt to let her sit and remove her eggs each evening?

Update on the eggs, So far it looks like atleast 15 are viable but I will check again in the next few days (will see how well I can see during the day as I am out the next few nights andn ot back until late

. Desperate times call for desperate measures.

Today is day 7, so considering they are bantam eggs and apparently they hatch around day 18, they will be due around 11/11

. Congrats to those with chicks born and goodluck to the rest of use.

Lockdown has happened and I'm kinda freaking out at having had high humidity and half convinced I've already killed them all, ahhhh. They're in my bathroom now, with my chick brooder mostly set up in the hopes I get some.

Yes.. have been upright since I got them (let them settle for 24 hours) then no turn for 4 days. Embryo is RIGHT smack where the air cell should be. I'll keep watch. I'll try to get a pic at next candle.
