Junibutt hang on in there....all is not lost!
A couple of hatches ago my broody got off her eggs too and then sat back in the wrong nest box. It was very late in incubation. Silly me, I didn't even notice that she was in the wrong box and dutifully collected all the eggs for the day, putting them on the kitchen bench ready for eating.
It was something like 6 HOURS later when I realised my mistake!!!!!
I had to candle a bunch of eggs to figure out which ones were the ones with chicks in! The eggs were cold. I moved the broody back to her correct box, quickly put her eggs under her, and a few days later I had 3 beautiful chicks. No hatching/health issues whatsoever. Just goes to show how resilient hatching eggs are.
Now I'm biting my nails on this next lot. Middle of day 20 and nothing is happening! No pipping, cheeping, nothing. My humidity for lock down is at 69-75%. Temperature (as best as I can get it) is approx. 37.7 celcius.
I couldn't help myself....I confess....last night I candled again...worried I'd killed them. Nope
saw movement, and the eggs are much fuller now too. Guess they're just moving into position/absorbing the yolk.
Oh - I am SO NOT a patient person! Gotta work on that
