November Hatch-A-Long (2014)

Also...I resisted handling again today...I need a support group. Tomorrow is day 8.[/quote]

Let's start one right now...that way we can join the other groups and have multiple meetings to pretend that we will actually stay on that danged wagon!

I have to candle today for the last time. Tomorrow is day 15 and at the point the eggs are so full/dark that they are on their own after that. I accidentally "spilled" too much water in the incubator this morning. The humidity is too high and the eggs are smelling when I open it up. I think the legbar eggs need to go. I'm over losing them...just hoping now that I get some adorable olive eggers from my marans eggs. We'll know in 7 days. LOL

Thanks again everyone for their support. 7 hrs already in Day 21 and no pips/cheeps/hatch yet. I am not going to lose hope though till end of Day 22 or 23. Day 24, I may or may not do a float test before throwing them away.

Peepers Support Group Members... May I make a suggestion...

Junibutt hang on in there....all is not lost!

A couple of hatches ago my broody got off her eggs too and then sat back in the wrong nest box. It was very late in incubation. Silly me, I didn't even notice that she was in the wrong box and dutifully collected all the eggs for the day, putting them on the kitchen bench ready for eating.

It was something like 6 HOURS later when I realised my mistake!!!!!

I had to candle a bunch of eggs to figure out which ones were the ones with chicks in! The eggs were cold. I moved the broody back to her correct box, quickly put her eggs under her, and a few days later I had 3 beautiful chicks. No hatching/health issues whatsoever. Just goes to show how resilient hatching eggs are.

Now I'm biting my nails on this next lot. Middle of day 20 and nothing is happening! No pipping, cheeping, nothing. My humidity for lock down is at 69-75%. Temperature (as best as I can get it) is approx. 37.7 celcius.

I couldn't help myself....I confess....last night I candled again...worried I'd killed them. Nope

saw movement, and the eggs are much fuller now too. Guess they're just moving into position/absorbing the yolk.

Oh - I am SO NOT a patient person! Gotta work on that

OK - one dozen went under Peggy the black cochin tonight. Two EEs, a blue andalusian, a minorca, two buttercups, three cuckoo marans, and three anyone's guess. Second broody I've had - her first attempt. Hatching date will be Nov. 22nd.

All is not lost. I moved the broody inside a few minutes ago because I did not want to take a chance tomorrow morning again. She was a little upset about the new environment though and got off for a few seconds. But as soon as she got off, there were cheeping sounds and she went back on the eggs. I was not able to see any pips but at least they are cheeping. Can't wait! I will probably be up all night checking on her very hr.
