November Hatch-A-Long (2014)

Now I want to start another clutch! I will have to live vicariously through all of you now that the waiting and sudden excitement is over. These five chicks will be going to a new home soon and I still have to clean and sanitize the incubator and wait for March. I have a pretty cool Easter hatch planned, for me at least. All these beautiful babies just keep my heart going.
Details? I'm debating what to do for an easter hatch for my kids. I think it'd be the perfect time

One dozen mixed but will have a few Blue Wheaton Americunas in there, half a dozen Pekin/Khaki Cambell crosses, Seramas, silkies and Polish. Roughly about 2 1/2 dozen eggs(huge for me) I have a chance to get some Game eggs also but not sure about those yet. I want to get more but have to make sure I have room in the incubator. My youngest told me if I build another incubator she would consider me obsessed. LOL

My hatch(es) are (finally) finished.
My first hatch went into lockdown with 5 eggs and 2 of them hatched. My second hatch went into lockdown with 11 eggs and 7 of them hatched.
All told, I got four girls, three boys and two mystery chicks from my GLW, but I think they're also girls. I'll get some photos when I am not so wiped out.

I can't wait to see how the remainder of the group does!

I'm pretty sure I have 3 girls and 2 boys. Since they all look so much alike I marked the boys heads with blue markers, LOL.

I got lucky that my best breeding pair is a barred rock hen and an australorp male. I've been told that this mix will produce sex-linked chicks: the males will have a while spot on their heads and feather out barred, and the hens will not. It seems to have held true. I got three with white spots. :)

How did you sex your chicks?

I bought my bf a light for his bike its 750 lumens. I can candle at 3 days and see the start of the baby perfectly. I need to control myself.

I have a lot going on in the bator. Down to 27 out of 36 white leghorn, 29 out of 2 dozen buff orps and 1 dozen barred rock. 12 out of 15 random pure breeds, polish, silkies, Dominique. 18 Maran, 12 ameraucana, 30 button quail, that's about it. Oh and 3 Rouen eggs. All the eggs were shipped minus the random 15 and 6 dozen Leghorn/ barred rock/ buff orps. I split those with someone I don't get to keep them all.

Oh the duck eggs aren't mine either. They gave me 30 to start and oh boy were they stinky. They got them for free and didn't know what eggs were good. I'm surprised 3 are kicking around. But they are doing good so far. First time trying ducks.
