November Hatch-A-Long (2014)

On day 20, three of mine have hatched and two more have pipped.

.
How do you like hatching in the egg cartons? This is my first time and I am nervous as hell.... NOt to mention I think my aircells looks small.

ON a good note!!! ONE of my two Serama eggs pipped last night... Not big, but when I played some chicks off of youtube,,,, it cheeped back at me. The seramas are my old eggs with decent sized aircells... all others seem really small to me.

Fine so far. They seem to have an easier time zipping than with the eggs rolling around on the wire. Post hatch they sometimes take a breather in an empty hole in the carton. We cut out the bottoms of each egg space in the cartons for more ventilation.

One more has hatched since I posted!

I have a question that I hope someone here can give me some advice on.

Long story short... late last night I made a really stupid mistake. I read the hatch date for my RIR eggs as Monday (which was the first silkie batches hatch date). There was a little amber looking something on the side of a couple shells and I was worried they were sitting there rotting and starting to ooze. So I took an egg out and candled it, hoping for a miracle, and saw nothing but a black lump. So I took it in the bathroom to open it and it was still ALIVE and cheeping!!! I thought the temp spike killed them too. The problem is that I made a hole in the top and cracked a big chunk on accident while I was trying to slowly widen the hole. It is still attached to the membrane so it didn't come off. I think the little thing had internally pipped already. I put the egg back asap and upped the humidity to 72. I'm terrified that it's going to die because I was stupid and made decisions when I was too tired to be making them.

That was at about 11pm and it's till moving and breathing but hasn't made any progress at all. Is that okay? Should I be worried? Any advice would be great!!

I have no advice other than maybe to wrap it in warm wet paper towels and just leave it....

Okay. I will try the paper towels. I've seen him trying to peck at the shell but having no luck. I know it can take quite awhile for them to zip after pipping but I unfortunately did the external pipping for him and I'm not sure how that's going to throw everything off
