November Hatch-A-Long (2014)

We have two eggs in our incubator and six (and counting) under a broody. They're all eggs from our own flock, the roosters an orp, not sure which hen is laying the eggs but it's most likely either one of the orpingtons or the cuckoo maran (who's the broody sat on them). We're planning to candle them this evening and see if they're fertile, eggs in incubator are day 7 and the others are a few days behind!

You may want to mark the eggs under the broody just in case there is a staggered hatch and she decides to abandon the eggs. That way you will know the age of the eggs.

Thinking there needs to be a support group. I even dreamed about chickens last night!!! We are getting ready to set for our second try. (Our first one didn't go well. Just one hatch out of two that survived.) Hopefully we will be getting our eggs from my sister tomorrow and they'll be going in the incubator tomorrow night. Good luck to everyone!!!!

I am all for the support group. What will be the objectives though? No hatching or only 3 eggs per hatch or .........

Those parameters are hilarious!

I just candled the eggs under my girl, one wasn't developing at all. So she is down to two. Hope everything goes well for them both!

Good luck! when did you set your eggs?
A week ago. It was obviously not veining at all, where as the other two had easily seen veins. It was a light colored egg, and when I cracked it open it looked like it had been laid today. Not one development. Mamma is in a dog kennel, and I marked the eggs so I would know for sure there weren't any errant newbies. The egg was fertile, just never started. How weird is that?? Nature is a mystery.

Hmmm... Guess we'd have to have a set of goals. Maybe an x number of hatchings a year. A call line for withdrawl and support to talk you through those moments you just want to fire up that incubator, or make that trip to TSC. Weekly skype meetings. LOL
