November Hatch-A-Long (2014)

I am so looking forward to seeing everyone's chicks!! I feel like I'm in a ketchup commercial..."Anticipation...anntiiciipaaaation, its making me wait. LOL

I was just reading through the Hatching Chicks 101 sticky and saw that it recommended to bring the temps down to about 98 during lock down and hatch. I've never done this myself but was wondering if anybody else has. Have you noticed any difference in hatchs? How easy was it for you to adjust your temps down and then back up? I don't think I want to do it because I'm worried about getting the temps adjusted wrong and messing the whole thing up. Thoughts? Also read that they make clicking noises while incubating and it is a good idea to let the eggs touch each other so they can communicate and have a better chance of hatching more at the same time instead of hours or days apart. More thoughts?

Day 12 and just realized I have 9 days left till day 21 but only 6 till lock down! Yay! I have been rotating the eggs around the incubator the last couple days just once a day. It is probably unnecessary especially now but I figured it can't hurt anything for their growth.

Hi @annas orps
 how did your hatch go? Yours was due on the 23rd. We would love to see some pics if possible.
Hi @pickledpenny
 @thailand
, ready to lockdown on Friday?

I'm moving mine over today :) I had miscalculated them. They should be hatching on the 1st and then my trader joes are due tomorrow! So 7 in lockdown! I set a bunch more but most were clears. My 10 orpingtons, 4 cream legbars (I thought they were mixes, but she told me otherwise! Even more exciting now!) and one lonely mix are due next Wednesday and looked great when I checked on them yesterday.

I'm very sorry to hear about your flock. I would be devastated. I really hope those eggs hatch for you. I'm also curious to see how that little bator works out. I saw them on eBay too.

So far i have found that the little bulb thermometer that came with the bator was worthless. I didn't trust it to start with so i ice calibrated a thin cooking thermomitor that would fit through a hole provided in the lid. I soon found that the higher the temprature the further off the bulb thermometer got. I checked the bator in the middle of the night to find the calibrated one saying it way 103 and the bulb them pegged out over 135. A quick candle of one of the eggs showed it wasn't cooked so I choose to believe the meat thermometer.
