Can't wait till mine get here! I haven't had fuzzy butts since April!!!

I threw out about 7 clears last night, and 1 that quit I think around day 5. Shouldn't surprise me since some of the eggs were old and some were refrigerated. Still have 12 eggs a cookin (unless I miscounted, lol)

I have high hopes for the 24 I have in my bator now. We had a massacre here on Tuesday, and I lost 24 chickens, so I set 24 eggs (the most it will hold), then I have ducks eggs coming at the end of the month. I hope I hatch out another RIR roo. He was sooo pretty

Thanks, I am feeling better about it now I have the bator going and know that duck eggs will be following. And we moved and upgraded the coop too. The one thing I am REALLY happy about is we didn't lose my three favorites. My cochin, my polish and my naked neck.

I would either let her hatch some, or put her in jail to break the broody. Jail is isolated with no nesting materials for 1-3 days.

if it's her first try she may not go though with the whole thing anyway. Go ahead and let her try. It won't hurt her or the babies. If she actually does hatch em, with our new hatches in cold weather we put them in an enclosed pen (it has a wire front) with a heat light and shavings for warmth. We turn the heat light off at night and babies climb under mom, and they do just fine.

Thanks - I will try not to get my hopes up too high (right...LOL) I took some of her eggs out of the fridge and let them come to room temp. today. This afternoon, I sat them next to her and she eventually tucked them in underneath her. I would guess she is sitting on about 6 eggs now. I've had chickens for two years now and this is the first time a hen has gone broody, so I am super excited.
The babies would be really unique looking. The father will either be a huge black Brahma or a wacko Polish rooster - I'm assuming it could be both(?) She chose to nest in the barn cat's little igloo house, so that worked out well in allowing her to be separate from the others. She is really taking this seriously, so I'm hoping she's in it for the long haul :) I totally get that "don't count your chickens until they've hatched" saying now!! (& its really hard to do)

I have 4 white Ameraucana eggs under a broody due Nov 26th. 9 Millie fleur Cochin and 2 more Ameraucana due first week of Dec and my crazy DH just recieved 8 BCM eggs in the mail today.

At least 10 babies hatched out so far! 4 babies hatched out so far under the silkie hen and 2 eggs left to go. At least 6 babies are out under the big rir/cochin hen and so maybe 4 eggs left under her? Not positive how many were under there to start with.

Here is a pic of one of the babies under the silkie hen. A little splash.....all hatched out from olive eggs, so should be some sort of easter egger.
