Novice breeding question!!!

If you knowledgeable breeders were to for some unforeseen reason have to start all over what would be your top five varieties to purchase?and first crosses to make?hope these are not too confidential of questions and all replies are greatly appreciated!

If I wanted to breed five varieties (so hard just to choose five!) I would probably choose:

Sussex (Speckled is my favorite). They are so pretty and friendly and also good layers
Mille Fleur D'uccles (love the coloring also, and so cute)
I love my Delaware, and if I were raising a meat breed I would choose the Delaware
I also love Icelandics! So maybe I would go for six.

Orloffs (I just bought some and I love their shape! They look like eagles)
Buckeyes (can't help it, I'm a Buckeye myself)

My cross-breed is a Silkie, Sebright, OEGB cross called a Dalmatian, and I'm planning on selling them next year, as everyone says they are beautiful looking.

By varieties i assume you mean color patterns of coturnix? For me it would depend entirely on my goals at that time. I like to manipulate color patterns so id probably go with color diversity. If i wanted meat birds id just buy pharaohs and select for size a few years in a row.

Jumbo Pharoah, Texas A&M. Just two For Meat and Eggs

You could cross a male a&m with female pharoahs

Crossing pharaohs with A&Ms (jumbo white) doesnt provide any genetic benefit unless youre using jumbo white and standard pharaohs. All A&m/pharaoh crosses do is hide recessive white genes in the next generation of pharaohs. White is recessive, pharaoh (brown) is incomplete dominant. Once you add white into your pharaoh flock you create a lot of splits that will drop white birds from seemingly pharaoh stock
