When my hens go broody, they lay about 6 or so eggs, then start sitting, or is it setting, I dunno. But of course, my eggs never hatch because I do not have a rooster. One of my hens has hidden her eggs way under the barn where I can not reach. She comes out squawking and flapping every once in awhile to eat and drink and goes back. I use to worry about hens going broody and never getting up, but this one has done it several times in the past 1 1/2 years I've had her, so I no longer worry. I thought they'd sit till they died if the eggs didn't hatch, but they do give up after almost 3 months, and start all over. Takes about 21 days for eggs to hatch once they start sitting full time. Good luck with your hen going broody!!
