Just put the geese in the pen with everyone else and getting ready for work. Look outside one more time, and Petey is standing on Petey Girl and doing his thing. In May. When Petey Girl is only laying about one egg every three days.

How long till her eggs will be fertile again? Is it like chickens, about three weeks or so?? I've had so many ganders before that this part of reproduction is not in my experience.

ETA: forgot to mention how he behaved afterward. Bill straight up in the air and honking in that same way he does when he "vanquishes" the dog

It's been a weird year all the way around. I wouldn't give up just yet. Mine all started late this year. Honestly, I think they are all as shell shocked as I am after the Winter we've had. Keep us posted.

Her eggs will be fertile now if he is mating her. Just takes some guys longer to figure it out. The thirty days is to assure that a previous gander or roosters sperm has "cleared" from the reproductive tract.

I've never seen him mate her, just tries with me. All my eggs were sterile when marathonmultiplesmom put them in her incubator, but you're saying in a few days I could have fertile eggs? She's been laying since the beginning of April (yeah, that does seem late). They are not quite a year old, so I sort of understood why Petey hadn't gotten around to mating her just yet.

And yeah, they could definitely be fertile soon! My goose eggs have been fertile all season, even though my gander and geese are less than a year old. I actually have never even see them mate.. but whatever, eggs for hatching for me!

Throw some in the bator and see what happens! Or throw them in my bator, haha. I'm starting a goose hatch next week.. just sayin.

Well, I can test some if you want me to. My pretty just laid an egg a couple days ago and she is separated from the ganders but its FERTILE! I can already see the spot just one day later. She laid another so I set up a nest area for her and I hope she sits. Not sure if/when they stop being fertile after being separated? I pulled the first one to check for fertility but I didn't want to keep pulling. I imagine she will do a better job sitting than I will at incubating at this point. So, I have her one egg incubating with a dozen chicken eggs but thats it for me with goose eggs this year (unless you wanna bring over eggs for another go) Too bad, no omelettes for you! LOL

P.S. I have 2 eggs in the hatcher now
I'm staying away except to keep trays full & humidity up 1x a day, keeping occupied and just waiting...
and I got 4 new chickens today
