Now, if I can eat these eggs!!!

Hello all,

I went through a phase where I wouldn't touch eggs, I won't tell you what went though my mind.

Arielle's advice of making muffins or cookies is great, especially if someone else makes them so you don't have to see the eggs.
It removes the connection between where they come from and that delicious cookie you just ate.
Work your way up to eating whole butt eggs.

What worked for me was to make egg salad, I know, I know, me and Pee-Wee Herman are the only two freaks out there who like egg salad!!!

You are experiencing one of the great wonders of chickeens. THey challenge the way we think about food. Maybe someday you will be in awe of what a chicken can do instead of grossed out.

When my chickens first started laying, I felt weird eating the eggs.
I completely felt like what Arielle stated in the above quote.
I was face to face with where my food came from for the first time in my life and at first it freaked me out.

On paper it was cut and dry.
Chickens = egg laying machines

In reality
Chickens = so much more!!!

I have really fallen for these little creepy, whinny monsters!!!
I look forward to feeding them and being around them, they really brighten up my day.
I find excuses to go out an be with the girls.

Like what Arielle has stated, I have reached that point where I am in awe of my chickens, they are truly beautiful!!!
I am forever changed by my limited experience of raising chickens and I feel lucky to have been given the opportunity to do so.

For another perspective:
When I was younger I had a friend from New Orleans who didn't move to a large city until he was a grown man.
When he was child his mom took him to the grocery store (which was a whole day's trip for them).
While at the grocery store he saw the meat section and he thought this was ridiculous as his family went hunting when they needed meat. He asked his mom "why do you need to buy meat when it's just outside?"

Anyway, I hope you find a way to get over your egg-phobia or else you will have some very lucky friends!!!

Take Care,
~Mary
