Now I'm confused.....!!???

Well since this thread is for confused people, its a good place for me. Today is day 22 for my batch in the incubator. There were 9 eggs from various breeds in my flock and 9 left of 14 shipped Cochin eggs. 3 of mine hatched (2 on day 20, 1 on day 21). They all look alike and their eggs did too. So I'm assuming these three are all from the same hen. Silkie momma is my guess. Other eggs were rocking and rolling during the pipping of these three, but now all have remained still and silent for the past 24 hours. Temp has stayed a good steady 99.5, humidity 50-55% until raised at day 18 to 65-70%. My three triplets are tucked away in the brooder and are already eating since 24 hours have gone by. Is it normal for moving and chirping eggs to go still and silent like this? They did get rolled around quite a bit by their three early brothers or sisters.

I have only hatched with the eggs in cartons. I saw the rocking stop for 24 hours or more before hatching. I have only hatched twice before but I would give them another day or try the float test.

When this eggs are rocking and rolling the chick is trying to get itself into the correct position to hatch. When they internally pip into the air cell they will rest for a long time while their lungs get used to breathing air and the blood vessels dry up and they absorb the rest of their yolk. Next they will externally pip and rest again for up to 24 hours. After that they should begin to zip. Obviously, some will be faster or slower than others. Most of my eggs have hatched on day 22 or 23 as well.

Day 14 was Tuesday. Candled again. Out of 11 had to take 2 out so leaves 9 with all live chicks inside. You can see them all moving. You can even see the feet on one of them. So doing a lot better than the first time. Also keeping figures crossed.

I love it when they are dancing around when I candle. Sending continued good hatching vibes your way.

I took a quick look at the 28 I loaded on Friday, only 4 days and distinct veining in 18.
