Now I'm confused.....!!???

I been wanting a separate flock of them. Just couldn't wait for 3 months to get the breeder flock. I still am but needed a fix. Out of the 8 seem to have poo on there back feathers. Not much, nothing clogging the vent. Put some apple cider vinegar with mother in there water. That stuff works wonders for that. I hope these r close the size of the breeders birds. Anywhere close I will be happy. Color doesn't matter with these. Size is what is important. LOL.

Many I've seen are crow headed, just not much in the way of brain-bucket

TSC told me they got them from a hatchery in Ohio. But of course could not remember which one. lol Meyers and mcmurry's light brahma chicks on there web site aren't even the right color. LOL.

Too much black in them. At least these chicks are yellow. LOL.

Our LB are going on 4 y/o. They can from ideal and 3 of the 4 have smut, a little on the small side. I wanted the darks but DD wanted lights, we also have a buff and a dark bantam now.

OR 4hmom
Lets see OR, Oregon? 4H - kids in 4H or are you a 4-H leader AND, of course, a mom. How close am I. I've been everything but Mom, in my case Dad. Was a 4H Poultry leader (Sacramento). I've had some kind of animal or animals since I was about 10 & have raised just about every kind you find on a farm Plus a Deer, a Crow & numerous birds as well as Pheasants, Quail, Ducks & Chickens. When I was in 4-h I showed in the Jr Shows & while at one show I entered the greased pig race. At the time, if you caught the pig it was yours. My parents were a bit shocked that I came home with one

I wasn't aware they still had a Show in Red Bluff. It use to be one of my favorites back in the 70s. Went to that one, one in Santa Rosa, Fresno, Sacto State Fair &, Roseville all wile living in Sacto.

There is a big difference between Show Quality birds & hatchery birds. Most of the SQ Birds are much bigger & coloring/feathering is WAY better, however laying ability is sacrificed because the breeders basically bred part of that ability out of them in favor of other things. A light or dark brahma show bird is at least twice a big as a hatchery bird, they are HUGE especially males. They are impressive.

The flyer for the show in Red Bluff is for a 1st Annual, and it started out in Anderson and was moved to Red Bluff.

I hope to take a Blue orp bantam, a partridge rock bantam and a quail OEGB down. Just for fun and see what a non 4-h judge thinks of them.

We lived in town when I got old enough for critters, all we had where the normal pet animals. Occasionally a wild critter that needed some help, the one I remember most was the magpie my dad brought home from deer camp one year with a bad wing.

funny, the shows I attended in the late 70s also started out in Anderson, although I don't remember if I attended any in Anderson. Probably went to Red Bluff 3 or 4 years before they discontinued it. So It's back, I guess. Some of these shows go for a few years in one spot & then stop because they can't find people to help or the cost of the building rent gets to high. The organizations, usually a Poultry Club, that put on the show really don't make much money off them. There has been a show in Eureka. It's normally in February, I believe

You mention "breeder birds" what are you talking about. Are you getting some breeder quality birds from some show bird person?

heritage breeds are birds that have been in the uS for a long time. RIRs since 1904, Delawares, since 1940, Brahmas, since 1874. Hopefully these will quite different than hatchery birds. If you get some really nice RIRs they will be a very dark red, blood red, males looking almost black on parts of their body. Male RIRs do have a tendency to be pretty aggressive some times. The story grandma tell of being chased around by a rooster, was probably a RIR
