Now I've got Silkie fever! *Update* Scored!!!!!

After seeing all those photos of everyone's beautiful Silkies, I now have Silkie envy! The only place that I might be able to get one, if I'm extremely lucky is from the feed store.

I have yet to find a local breeder.

That's where we lucked out and got our Silky from, TSC. Three things to look for in chicks if you want a silky...
1. grey skin - silkies are one of few breeds with grey skin
2. feather on legs - not many have feathered legs
3. five toes - silkies have 5 toes instead of the normal 4

If a chick has all three of these traits, it is most likely a silky!

there are several hatcheries that have silkies as well, just in case there are no local breeders. mypetchicken.com sells them and if you google silkie and hatchery, you should be able to come up with a good start! Good luck to you, I have silkies and just love them to bits....

Check the bantam bin at TSC! Mine had 'assorted bantams' yeah...assorted my butt! LOL They were all white silkies!
5 miles down the road, the family owned feed store ordered the same assortment from the same hatchery and not 1 silkie in the bunch! Of course I went there first!

If you want to hatch, there are several breeders with beautiful birds on here that ship eggs.

Woot!!!! Major Silkie score! I just got off the phone with the feed store in town. They will have 50 assorted Silkies coming in from Ideal next Thursday!!!

I know that since chick fever is on the down swing out here (they still have 3 "Easter Chicks" left over from last week) and I also get to the feed store super early-I'll be able to casually look each and every chick over carefully to pick mine out.

Out of 50, I ought to be able to find a couple of really good ones, you think???
