Hi, I have had chickens for a year now and not had any problems with neighbors complaining about them at all I do live in town and am allowed 15 chickens, now the coop is supposed to be 50 feet from anyone else place of resident now the house to the right of me was vacant for years and then when they moved in they were happy I had chickens they wanted eggs they moved out and another person moved in she has lived in the county so the chickens did not bother her, now someone has complained that my coop is not 50 feet away from some ones place the only thing I can figure is that I got a rooster (bantam) and that ticked someone off, even if my adult hens are louder then he is when they sing their egg song their is another person on my street that has a rooster that crows all day long mine crows about 3 times in a row in the mornings then some in the afternoon he does not crow in the evening or at night I am not sure who complained but they must have looked it up on line to find out about the 50 feet thing because that is what the complaint was about the coop not being 50 feet away from some dwelling talk about being a pain in the butt so now I am waiting for the dog pound to come out and tell me if it is 50 feet away and if I have to move my new coop I am building this sucks, I am so upset right now I have told my neighbors that if they want eggs let me know i will be happy to give them some but no one has complained to me I wish people would come talk to someone instead of just calling in an complaint I want a farm so bad right now. I am really beginning to feel like people are just mean. I am sorry about the rant but i am scared I will lose my chickens and i don't want that. so once again sorry for the rant just need some where to complain and have some one understand..... thanks for reading this post keep your fingers crossed all goes well.

I live in an area where chickens aren't even allowed! I've been lucky now for nearly a year, and animal control hasn't visited me! I'm thrilled about that! Sounds like to me, someone doesnt' have anything better to do with their lives, but make other peoples lives a living he_ _!

Are you allowed to have the rooster where you live? I can't have a rooster in my town.

If getting rid of the rooster saves your flock you might want to consider it.

yes people are mean
yes people are nosey busibodies
yes people are spineless whiny babies.

Sounds like you need to move your coop if thats all it is. If there's not been a noise complaint don't worry about the rooster.

Don't sweat it! Don't volunteer any information (ie: ask about the rooster or anything), just move it where they say it's ok and get something in writing and signed!

Sounds like you have a neighbor like I had. He called the city any number of times, my insurance agent, flagged down insurance adjusters that were inspecting houses nearby. Complaints ranged from focusing on my compost pile which was enclosed in two bins and perfectly acceptable to the city. To having bags of leaves stacked against my "privacy" fence in my backyard which according to my neighbor attracts vermin. So got rid of the bags and added leaves to compost pile. Complained to my insurance agent that my wood trim needed painting. And on and on. We were lucky and found five acres in town. Peace and quiet

I'm so glad that if any of my neighbors see anything going on in my yard, they're tresspassing!

I couldn't live where so many of you do.... I'm afraid I'd get vindictive and start dishing back out what I'd been getting. Of course treat me good, I treat you good! But treat me bad and

there is no law against rooster, (I would not have gotten one if there was) and I am moving the coop 30 feet just to make sure that its the 50 feet away from the other house, I try and help my neighbors I work hard at being nice no matter what but this is starting to piss me off people who can not come and talk to a person face to face but have to call others to make life misable for someone else. I am not getting rid of my rooster or my hens. I will move the coop and add the "hallway" to their pen but I am not giving up. thanks for all the support I knew that people on here would understand...

Well dog pound came out she told me to move my coop till it is 50 feet away from neighbors house so that is what we will be doing the new coop is 1/2 built so we will have to take down 2 walls to move it, and then move it and put the walls back up make the other 2 walls and roof, then make some kind of run from the coop to the pen which is 30-40 feet away from the coop does any one have any ideas on what kind of hallway or something like that from the coop to the run. I can't really move the pen due to money and the materials to move their pen. thanks for any help.

I think that I would make a low "tunnel" from 2x4 welded wire and then cover with 1/2" hardware cloth. You'll need a framework to attach it to. I'm not sure about width or height, I'm sure someone with experience will tell you what worked for you. I've been toying with my coop placement and I may end up building a tunnel from coop to run. If I do build a tunnel it will be in the way of the path around the yard so I'll build a small stairway going over the tunnel.

I wish you well on your project and I'm sorry that you're having the neighbor problem.

At least the good news is that you can keep your birds!

I understand what you mean about how petty people can be.
