NPIP for shows

It isn't hard to get set up to get NPIP. I wouldn't think you'd need to join APA or ABA to get help.
With the internet one should be able to find the contact info for their area pretty quickly.
I showed years ago and was a member of both. Never once did anyone suggest I do or help me get NPIP.
All I ever did was get tested at the show's. You never needed to be NPIP to show.

GREAT on the APA membership!! That is awesome!!

That is the first step! I believe their site has a forum that is exclusive to the APA members where folks can discuss things like this. I would recommend asking on that forum rather than here, because more of those people have experience showing and transporting their birds. Most people here have never transported any poultry across state lines. I haven't, except for acquiring some baby chicks from a certified hatchery years ago.

Yes, I do think that you probably need to be Pullorum-tested to show - at least to transport the birds over state lines.

Pullorum-tested and NPIP are different things, although to be NPIP you need to be Pullorum-tested already.

Let's not instill the fear of "felonies" in each other. NPIP should not be a mystery.

Let's help our fellow chicken keepers get properly tested and certified. There is probably value in trying to find a friendly local Pullorum tester who supports backyard birds.

Well, if you are a certified Pullorum tester, tell us the names of those three states that are not yet pullorum-free.

Try to help other poultry keepers rather than making scary statements like "For me it’s a felony with jail time and fines." Authoritarian, eh?

What???? I looked at the law in my state and during the class they also stated the same. Believe me or not, your choice. Since I am certified I can’t claim ignorance if I am caught, and I think most people aren’t even aware that states regulate this..
it’s not authoritarian, where does that even come from? Why bring politics into it? Congress passed a law about 100 years ago because pullorum was devastating flocks. Each state runs their own program, and the laws will vary. It no longer is the threat it used to be as only 3 states have reported any cases in recent years. You can look it up if you are interested. Do I think the law should be rescinded? Yes. There are worse poultry diseases out there.
Seems odd that someone thinks I am not trying to help a poster, who hadn’t gotten any replies, so I took the time to write an informative reply, and then That someone decided to be nasty. You can correct with facts if you would like, perhaps by posting what you’re state does...which would show how different states run their program, but slinging Mud at someone else is not really appropriate.

You still didn't tell us the names of the three states that still have Pullorum.

And, you never clarified the post that implied that transporting NPIP-certified chickens across state lines is a crime, which it is not. If that were the case, the APA could never have a National Show and the broiler industry would be in deep trouble!

Clarify your message please and stop threatening show chicken owners with the fear of a "felony."

Why wouldn't someone who shows their birds want to be a member of the appropriate organization? It seems rather obvious that a show breeder would want to be in an organization related to whatever birds they are showing.

Large Fowl ----- ABA. Bantams ----- ABA
Students ----- 4H or FFA as appropriate

The other poster said nothing about it being a crime to transport NPIP birds across state lines. They were talking about penalties for transporting non NPIP or proper paperwork birds across state lines.
Also I never said someone that showed shouldn't be a member of APA or ABA. My point was you didn't need to be to get NPIP or to find help or support to get NPIP.
I agree if youre showing you should join but I was talking about getting NPIP not showing.
And no you don't have to be NPIP to cross state lines to show. It least not in every state or at least that wasn't the case here a few years ago.

Is it all birds in the flock or just the birds crossing state lines?
