I'm in the midst of my first hatch with an nr360, and I have a question.

I didn't keep the vent open. In fact, I closed it to get the humidity up. But just now I looked at the directions, and saw that it said the vent MUST be all the way open during the last 3 days, for good air flow.

Is this true? As in, did I screwed up my hatch?

6 of my quail already hatched, and 2 are pipped. One died in the egg and one I killed trying to "help" it out. :/ I have 9 more untouched eggs in there. Do you think I killed them?

No it’s fine. Don’t worry. The vent is ridiculously small, and the lid is not air tight, leave the red caps off the water channels and you get more airflow than the vent.

Oh, was I supposed to put the cap back on? LOL. Man, each new incubator is a journey of discovery! This is making me realize my crummy old $70 incubator isn't actually that bad. At least I know how to use it!

It seems like the makers of the nr360 are obsessed with fresh air. they also say never to put it on the ground, which others say is silly and ridiculous.

I keep the plugs out unless it’s really dry from the heat running a lot.

I wouldn’t put it on the ground because my dogs think the way to get something is to lick it, so if they want to go out they lick the door, they want attention they lick your leg or hands or feet lol. I think if they wanted eggs, they would lick the incubator all day and night hoping for a jackpot.

Another myth, don’t flip over the lid or it will affect the heating element or the thermometer. I flip mine over on the counter and clean it with Clorox wipes and it’s fine. Any time it was shipped, like from manufacturer to reseller, from reseller to your home, I promise it was upside down many times. I don’t remember where I saw not to flip it, but it isn’t accurate from what I can see.

the fan in that thing is like a wind tunnel. there's chick fluff all on the inside like it was blow-drying them.

This is a nice feature, as my old incubator's fan is weak, so it really only circulated air on one side of the incubator, and all my chicks come out still moist.

I guess the super strong fan is good for when there are lots and lots of eggs inside.

I cram that thing full haha, 51 eggs going this time. I’ve been hand turning 7 that I balanced on the turner. I’m making that bator earn its keep lol. Seriously tho I’m more risky with it since I got the brinsea, the added weight will probably affect the life expectancy of the turner motor.
