Nugget is making strange noises

Not sure I can be of any help here, Kate. Guess he could have something caught in his throat. If it was gapeworm, he'd be coughing and choking, I'd think.
Sleeping out in the open air like he does (I think, right?) I wouldn't say he would have pneumonia like I keep watching for in my crippled rooster, Zane, lying on his chest all day and having to stay inside when it rains; what I mean is pneumonia like a bedridden person would get. Hopefully, Nathalie will have a suggestion for you. The only thing I know to do is supportive therapy, unfiltered ACV in his water, etc.

Thanks all, I just had a friend over who is a military biologist and he says it sounds like chest congestion, allergies maybe, but he's bringing me some antibiotics for him. He doesn't think it's serious because Nugget is not acting sick, lethargic, no signs of being ill just the darn noise. I'm hoping he hasn't had for long and I just didn't notice!!

Suscribing to this thread because Nugget is legendary and I hate that he might be coming down with something.

I hope you figure it out and that we are just all over- reacting.

I didn't have this with a chicken, but we had a duck that was wheezing once. Did breathe with bill open and had the sound of wheezing on exhalation. Not sure what caused it, but put in a steamy room (ran the shower). It easied the wheezing and then gave terramycin antibiotics in water. It did the trick. A change in weather, or dampness, or even something in the straw could have caused it. Hope you find out what up with Nugget and he's fine soon.

I have a pair of huge meat hens (cornish rocks I guess) for pets, I call them the Tysons. I've noticed whenever the humidity is high they have some breathing issues. I hear congestion, gargling etc... sometimes they sit in the shade and gasp for air. They are still here and laying eggs regularly.
Being that Nugget is so huge I wonder if he doesn't have something similiar. Hope he gets well soon!!!!

Well I think we have improvement. He still sounds a bit odd but nowhere near as loud or rough. He's back outside and much happier, the constant whistling and screaming of these quail babies was driving him nuts I think lol.
