I’ve had Guinea Fowl now for almost 4 years. Lately my birds have gotten extremely noisy at night. I don’t mind their shenanigans during the daytime but it is getting out of control. I’m ready to fill my freezer or sell them on at this point. I need some help!

I coop them at dark, most will go into their coop which is a 10x10 kennel with a top and two tarps on the sides to give some wind and rain cover. Nothing environmentally has changes over the past few year. I’ve 14 adults now. It’s extremely annoying at nighttime and seems to go on for hours at times. It’s got to be pushing the neighbors buttons even at 100-200 yrds away the sound travels very well.

Options I considered, adding a light, fully enclosing the kennel (wood and materials are extremely high now so I’d prefer options.
thanks to all for the help and advice. This has been an ongoing problem now for 3-4 months and seems to be getting worse.

If your guineas are going off at night it is because something such as a predator is bothering them. Eliminate the cause of their concern and they will be quiet at night.

A strategically placed trail camera may spot your problem.

non-stop? Lots of deer here and occasionally an arsehole fox comes by yes right at lunchtime every few days. Electric poultry fence over 100’ from the coop. I’ll set up a camera tomorrow. They seem to buckwheat and chatter at each other all darn night the past few months.

Would lighting help shut them up?

They need dark at night.

Mice are always possible. It’s gotten so bad lately I’ve been losing my mind. I hung up a flashlight tonight to see if this might chill them out. If I can’t get them settled in the next few weeks I’m going to consider a new location and coop. Otherwise I might fill the freezer 😕

Guineas are delicious.

Are they all the same age? I know you said you've had them for 4 years. Just curious if you got all of them 4 years ago or throughout the years

No they range in age from 1 year to 4. Most of the 14 are a year old now maybe 4 or 5 older than that. Seems like the same two going at the buckwheats and a male follower chattering up.

Flash light has been up for 2 hours now and it seems fairly quiet out there? 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

I will aim some cameras inside and find the culprit. Maybe set some mouse traps and remove a few mice. It could very well be the problem. I didn’t think they’d pay much mine to mice, they’ve never before.

If this turns out to be the same hen going on and on w/o much cause I will catch Her and put her in my tractor trailer cage for a few days to see if that makes a difference maybe? If it does she will go in the freezer🤦‍♂️
