We believe the sire to be the aussi across the road, he is often loose with no supervision (againist city code!! We all have 2 1/2 acres lots but incorporated by the town 6 miles away) 6 of the puppies are marked like airdales, One is a mix of airedale and blue merle and there are 8 that are markled blue merle but with very little, a tiny bit on the tips of the paws, or no white at all. I live in Oklahoma!

Little miss rosy says thanks for the help. Momma is finally not wolfing down all food placed in front of her, and she has started to drink tons of water. The pups are giving her a break every oncein a while now. I searched internet for ways to mark pups found rickrack or ribbon. Ribbon was a complete waste of time as within 10 minutes 5 of the 8 I had marked were already off so gonna have hubbie pick up rickrack today at wal mart and mark it with the colors to keep seperate.

One more? A friend of mine is taking one of the pups, she want tail docked and dew claws done no biggie as my vet does the very cheaply I am keeping one and plan on keeping tail ( interesting fact: it is illegal to dock in the UK except for medical reasons.) I will only be getting one pup done so can I just take the one pup may be 45 minutes total drive both ways and getting it done

When I was growing up my grandma bred chihuahuas and we always would give them white rice and ground beef with puppy food. It fattened them up and the puppy food helps a lot. I don't have facts/statistics behind it, just from what I remember we never had a sick momma dog.

Hello. Congrats on the unexpected puppies! Some dogs get very skinny after having puppies. Just give her a few days and she will put all her weight back on. Cows milk gives dogs diarhea. Put some sugar in the momma's water. It will make her drink more which helps produce more milk. She needs calcium also. You can buy a bottle of Cal-Tabs calcium tablets, put one of those in her water. Her food is mainly for her. If she isn't hungry she won't get the calcium she needs. Put calcium & sugar in her water. Just a little sugar, just to make it more palatable.

She has eaten 11 cups of the diamond large breed puppyfood today the first 3 times I am giving her between 2 and 3 cups each feedingshe just wolfed it down but the last couple of times it has taken her snacking for a few hours to finish it off. The babies seem to be more content also and are not constantly nursing but nursing and sleeping. It was funny I heard one of the baies whinning earlier and so mom laid down and used her leg to get the puppy to teat in the middle of a whine the momma dog put her to the nipple she stopped whinning and started with the slurpy nursing that sounds so wonderful. I have done this a time or 2 with my human kids cry breast slurp.

bil jac is a good dog food and you can usually find it in the frozen section in your local grocery store if not you can always use beef liver it is awesome i use it on my pregnant females and nurseing females and they gain weight and do great and the pups dont take them down much at all if they even do which i have not had it happen

For right now I would stick with a high quality dog food such as Blue Buffalo, Wellness something on that order. You can add dried milk to it and or canned salmon or mackerel. they need a good quality food without corn, wheat, gluten, or soy.......... all NOT good for dogs.
If you want to change to a RAW diet, do it later. Research it well or contact me once things have slowed down for you. But get them on a better dog food for now.
I do not recommend veggies as that is not going to put weight on her or add to her milk production. Instead of canned food give her a coupld raw chicken livers in her food to help. but do not get carried away.......... she is not used to this food and you do not want her body to act adverseley as that always sucks.
good luck

the lady with 4 dogs and 4 city chickens
