I had some spare time to fab up a egg bumper... give me your thoughts and opinions. I see it as a way teh chicks can thoroughly dry out, while letting there siblings hear them chirp, but not play bumper cars!

22 is way too many I believe , so i made this one for 16. Once lockdown starts and egg turner stops, soon as I remove the turner this goes in its place!

only real concern is the middle 5 . I might tAke it out once they start hatching, as it looks the smallest area

I ran out of construction paper strips, so the other 5 or 6 will be cut out and formed tomorrow. I still have 10 days before ready to put it to work

I tried to make a divider/basket out of plastic mesh and pipe cleaners. It doesn't fit very well in the incubator with the fan guard assembly hanging low. I would love to know how yours works. Also, I didn't put the shelf liner down at lockdown. Big mistake. They were so noisy banging around in there. Yes, 22 is too many.

Today was set day for the bumper. Hatch day is thurs or friday.

That's a really great idea! I was thinking about putting in a rim of some sort so I can grab dry chicks out without worrying about someone going over the edge. It hasn't happened yet, but this will be the first time I filled it to capacity with chicken eggs, I rarely do more than a dozen at a time. I'm eager to see how that turns out!

If this doesnt turn out, my next try will be plexiglass . I feel like i need more ridgidity, but for now no moisture abosrbed . Once eggs get to bumper car status , even if they give a little bit, its better than all over

For sure, it's freaking chicken soccer when the first few start hatching! I always worry about the ones that get hit and spun about. I haven't had any losses attributed to it specifically ( that I know of honestly) but, it can't be good. A hen would have that downward pressure on them to prevent the bumper car effect. When we do things artificially there's both pro and cons, and I think your idea is pretty brilliant, especially if you remove them as they dry rather than waiting for a bunch to hatch. The cardboard is also readily available to give a little spritz of water to boost humidity back up quickly when you do open it.
