I just purchased the nurture right 360 to try to hatch some eggs. I plan on setting the eggs on the 23rd. I was looking through the instructions and it says to keep the incubator in a room that is 74-80* and be sure it doesn't drop below 74 even at night.... does everyone that has this incubator do this? My house is normally set at 65* this time of year. I think my family will die of heat if I set it to 74 and my husband may kill me for the amt of oil that we use in the 3 weeks keeping it at that temp the whole time.

I know it has the candling light in there but it says the top has to be off while you are candling (I haven't fully looked at the incubator yet just the instructions as I just got it today). Do you use that to candle the eggs or do you just take one out and put the lid back on and use another light to candle them?

Also when do people think it is best to start eggs? at night? in the morning? in the afternoon? what are the pro's and cons for each one?

think those are all my questions for now but sure I will have more before I put the eggs in (and after) on the 23rd. I am going to run it sometime this week just to see how it does and how the temp holds.

I agree that seems pretty drastic. I wouldn't be comfortable in a room at 74'F at night.
I would think it would be more important to keep the temperature in the room fairly stable.

Thanks! it seemed a bit silly to me! Who has their house set at 74-80 with out it dropping under 74?!?! My house is pretty stable at 65 unless we get a really warm day then it may go up to 68-69 this time of year.

I have the same incubator and just hatched 8 chicks this week with it. The room I had it in stayed around 65-70 and the incubator had no issues keeping the correct temperature. I had an external thermometer and an internal one to make sure.
I used a separate very bright led flashlight to candle, I didn't care for the included candler. Just my preference.
My best tip I can offer, is keep in mind that every time you open that incubator, you're losing a ton of heat and humidity. When they start to hatch, it's SUPER important to leave them in there and not open if possible for around 24 hours. You risk causing the other eggs to shrink wrap, suffocate or drown. It's hard to do but I've made the mistake and killed babies that were trying to come out.
We learn from our mistakes! Good luck!

oh my! Look at that cute little chick!!!!!!!

ya I won't open it when they are in lockdown until the chicks need to come out. I have been following hatch threads and reading on there since I got my chicks even though at that point I had zero thoughts of hatching any chicks! haahaa.

good to hear yours kept up just fine. I think it will be good from others I have talked to.
