:jumpy Hi, we’re from a rural area near Malvern in Worcestershire UK! We’ve waited so long for our chicks, making sure their run or “Chicken Palace” was secure and had everything they needed!

We’ve 12 in total from now 13-22 weeks old, various breeds, 4 Silkies, 2 Cochins, 2 French Wheaten Marans, 2 FWM crosses with an Araucana & one with a Cream Legbar (olive egg layers), one Blue Laced Wynadotte & one little Black Pekin & loved them all and there little chick personalities!

Now need to get ready for eggs, very egg-citing & would love any advice on boxes and what we need to look out for.

Many thanks
Vicky

Hello, and welcome! Glad that you joined! Good luck with your new flock! You mentioned boxes, would that be nesting boxes?
Yes, sorry a newbie! We’ve shut the nesting boxes off at the moment but thinking we might need to let them in so they can think about doing their egg business! Still having to put some to bed so not sure if they will be ready yet!?

They probably have to get used to being in there and where they need to roost at, otherwise they could start sleeping in the nesting boxes.

Welcome :welcome Glad you decided to join us! Make sure your roosts are higher than the nesting boxes. I would open up one of the nest boxes but check in the evening that no one is sleeping in it:). I always put one or two fake eggs (or golf balls) in nesting boxes so the girls get the idea that it’s a good place to lay. Once you start getting some eggs make more boxes available
