Nutrena versys TSC layer crumbles...

I feed Nutrena All Flock pellets. Used to feed the grower/finisher crumbles and was glad the All Flock became available. My flock has done very well on both; plenty of eggs and great fertility (would be nice if I could blame the high rooster rate on feed!) so it surprises me to read of a problem with Nutrena feeds.

I tried Purina and Dumor a long time ago and wasn't pleased with either.

perhaps you can find a local mill that sell layer feed. i buy mine and its $9 for a 50# bag. You can identify exactly what grains they put into their feed and not processed.

I tried a few bags of the Nutrena Country layer and also the chick grower, I didn't like either, the chick grower was almost all powder that the chicks wouldn't eat and my hens also had a big drop in egg production while on the layer. I have gone back to the Dumor.

I have to say, I have had excellent results woth the Nutrena, but no so much with others. I know there are other factors involved, but as far as feed, I have been happy with the layer crumbles from Nutrena.

I wouldn't know because you can't find it in my area without driving 40 miles or more, 3 local feed and tack stores will not sell the Purina chicken feeds, a couple even sell Purina dog food, but said they do not like the other Purina feeds. Found this out trying to use a coupon a while back so we drove the distance just to get 2 bags of moldy feed we had to drive back and return. So we just kept using the pellets we always buy (same ingredients anyway) and they are less expensive.

I have noticed that if I switch feeds period, I have a drop off in laying for a while.I was having a problem getting my regular feed so I bought another brand and for a while they slacked off. Then when another mill was able to get the brand I had been using, I switched back and saw another decline for a while.
Now I mix the 2 brands and if one or the other is unavailable they don't seem to notice.
