Incidentally, I don't believe the Alaskan folks heat their coops either and they really have brutal weather to deal with. You might go to the Alaskan thread and ask how they manage it.

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. You have been given some really good advice by the other members. I have raised chickens in a non-heated coop where winter temperatures reached 30 below zero and they did just fine as feathers are excellent insulators. Just make sure your coop is well-insulated, draft free while maintaining good ventilation, and dry. Moisture is a much greater danger to your flock than cold. Please feel free to ask any other questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck in preparing your coop for the winter.

Thanks, everyone! We were going to but the coop and run from a friend, but her hens were going to someone else. But now the other person backed out, so we are getting the hens. This is way sooner than plannes, so i feel like we are scrambling. Can we put the coop and.run in an area that has an evergreen? That would mean that they would be on small needles from the tree in the run. Is that ok for them?

It's not a problem. I've had runs built underneath both pine and juniper trees and the needles don't bother the chickens at all.
