NY chicken lover!!!!

Here is the latch I use on all coop doors and run gates. Put a caribiner clip through the latch and it stays shut. Easy to manipulate in the winter, too. I have a raccoon probing my runs and this has been effective so far. Around $8 at Tractor Supply.

So would I - and I'd call it Bumble.

A colleague of mine has a friend who may have to give away six laying hens, as she's moving. Of course I've said that I'll take them if she doesn't find any other takers, because, hey, free chickens! I seriously need to expand that run...
Bumble? Is that because it would Bumble around because it couldn't see?

I use screws. Every door in every coop and every egg hatch is screwed in every night. It takes only a few 2nds longer to lock up and as far as I know coons don't know how to use screwdrivers or at the very least don't carry one with them. As they don't have pockets

It would work well on a coop. I actually had a Belgian Warmblood Gelding that could open this type of latch! We used to call him Houdini. He could also get into a horse trailer with the crossbar up in the back. I never actually saw how he actually did it, he was a big boy, but I came out on several occasions with him in the trailer....with the cross bar up because I wasn't ready to load yet. Off subject, I know, but kind of crazy.

Speaking of predators, set up a roll of poultry electrified netting today. It's kind of 'in the way' where I had to put it, but right now it's just experimental since we only got one roll. Let the chickens out - didn't see any evidence of them getting zapped and none tried to fly over. My cat however did get zapped and ran far far away. If anyone considers this stuff probably better to buy the 'plus' edition with more posts- we had to use regular step in posts to prop up a lot of sagging net. My $100 energizer is providing PLENTY of zap - fence is maxing out the little tester we have that stops at 7K.

Cass, just gave two of your chickies to my broody araucana. She hasn't killed them yet, just pecked at them to get under her so I am hopeful. Saving the other three that I have here for my other broody who will get them in the early AM.

Mine is sitting on my front porch waiting for me to put it up. I got the one with the closer posts (I think, I must have changed my mind about what one to get a million times!) How hard was it to put up? I have chickens in my rabbit cages until I get the dang thing up and no help to do it (Husband and son are gone for the week now, ya think they could have found time in the last two weeks to help me? Noooo. I guess putting up a fence in 90 degree heat with a whining baby is what I will have to do. Men, bah.)

What energizer did you get? I've been to TS twice and can't decide and I don't know what I am doing... I assume the giant red X on the box thru the chickens and bunnies means NO! Dead bunnies and chickens??? :O I want it to keep stuff out and not fry the chickens/bunnies... I just have the one net plus the gate but I am going to add a second net to it once I get the darn thing up and running...
