I pick them up all the time and they LOVE IT!!! If I don't then they will fly up on my shoulder and talk in my ear till I do pet them!

Me too. We LOVE our silkie roos. My daughter walks around with a roo under her arm all the time. I had a nice EE roo (wink wink), he was a GOOD boy.

I rehomed a lot of my layers, so I am WAY down on eggs right now. Lots of eggs from the pullet coop, tho - generally 10-12 or so, which isn't bad for 15 hens/three broody. My big coop is only giving me 3-4 eggs a day, but I went through it in my head yesterday and it's not too bad. there are 26 birds in that coop, three are roosters, four are broody and another four are definitely molting. Out of the remaining chickens, only four are of laying age - so 3-4 eggs is great!

Now when the 15-18 week olds in there start laying I'll be drowning again. I think I may rehome more hens or pullets if the feed prices keep going up. =(
If you need to rehome some hens, LF, my neighbor needs hens. Really. (Isn't that a hoot? LOL) Her flock took a lot of predator losses and now the problem is resolved and she has tried hatching a couple of times, with no result (cuz she doesn't listen to anyone's advice and move the broody out of the tractor..grrr...and the other 3 hens kill the chicks)...soooo I think she needs 4- 5 more hens, who will be treated like queens. No roosters tho. She has 2 she loves and that is why she needs more hens....so the roosters stop stripping the 4 hens she has bare.

I haven't personally had a problem, as I'm Head Rooster around here, but I've read a lot of accounts by folks who have had problems with roos deciding that, since they're nice and loving and maternal, obviously they must be hens and therefore should be dominated. I can and do pick up my big boy and give him a neck scratch occasionally, in part because it's fun and in part to show that I'm boss, but generally he keeps a respectful distance. Your mileage may vary.

Let me know if you need to rehome any more! ;)
I am using it on my 2 kittens as I did not know what kind of worms they had and I could not find a broad spectrum wormer for them. It works great on them!! The 1 kitten was small than her sister and when I gave them this, BOTH of them gained weight and they are eating more now so I am very happy with it! I am thinking of using it on my rabbits and lambs but not sure if I should.

What dosage did you use? Also, does it kill fleas?

Garden related inquiry: We seem to be having a terrible time with blossom end rot again on our tomatoes. Everything looks great, then just as they start turning red, the ends rot. We had the problem last year too. I rotate the crops and the tomatoes are in a box that was unused last year, just got the dirt the year before. We don't supplement water unless they are under severe stress. Any ideas how to save them? We planted 4 or 6 heinz, 1 beefsteak, 1 roma style, 1 mountain fresh, and 1 4th of July. They look a little cramped, which I know doesn't help. Last year they were caged and in a single row in 2 boxes. This year they grew quicker than I could cage them, but are all planted in 2 rows in 1 larger box. Most of the tomatoes are off the ground though. We also have 1 cherry in a separate box, but that never seems to have a problem.
Lime. Or chicken calcium. LOL I had the same problem....research says "Inconsistant watering" (Not my problem, cuz I watered every day it didn't rain) OR lack of calcium in the soil. SOooooo, I didn't have any lime around but I DID have oyster shell for the chickens. I threw some of that around the plants and let the water wash it into the soil and no more problem with those plants. Now the ones in the bed I didn't put calcium on , I still have a problem. (My soil SUCKS, so I am pretty sure soil nutrient defiency is my problem)

One less roo... Offered up Mahogany, the crooked toe EE rapist, to my Amish neighbor. He wasn't worth holding on to, was never going to use him for breeding and he was the constant crower starting at 4:30am. And the more everyone talks of feed prices, the more I know I need to cut out the freeloaders. Got my 2 bags of Agway Hearty Hen layer feed yesterday, $18.90 per bag. Yikes! We will see if it is worth the extra cost, otherwise back to the regular layer. The 2 bags should last me a month, especially if I unload a couple more boys. I'll try turning the other 2 EE out again with the flock, if they are still overly rowdy with the girls, they will also go. Starting now to think about keeping one of the GLW boys instead. Was going to get rid of the pair of them, but they are better behaved than the EEs. The Black Orp roo is very kind to the girls and they follow him around. The GLW hang around with them, but if there is a ruckus, they go running to break it up and then pace around doing the distress call (fooling me into thinking someone sang the egg song). Going to follow Pharmchick's style with Survivor - Chicken Run. :)

At what stage did you put the oyster shell down? I have a big bag of it, toss a few handfuls in with the layer feed. If I could toss it down now and save the tomatoes that are left, I will. If it needs to be done while the plants are small, I will plan on lime (and mulch) for next year.

Big surprise today...three of my Coronation pullets,, turned into roosters over night! LOL

Actually, I"m not laughing....They are huge and just popped out those pointy saddle feathers & bright red combs in the last few days....aarrgghhh.

So, if anyone wants some nice big Coronation boys..I'll bring to Tabs next Sunday...They are already eating size!

I will let you know cass!! I will be giving my extra baby roos away soon and I just need to find a home for my chantecler so I am not overwhelmed with roos right now. If Q-tip the white am needs to go, he has a home as well. I hate to give up hens, but we shall see. I am drowning in eggs - going to boil up a HUGE pot of pullet eggs today to make egg salad AND to feed back to the chickens since DH can't eat that much egg salad. :)

(And FWIW, I never move my broodies out and they do just fine. Only had one incident a year or two back, but that was a witchy chicken who is no longer here - a black australorp from heck!. Have all my broodies in the coops now with chicks and no losses .. maybe it's just that they have more space?)..
